• It is a collection of annals in Old English
chronicling the history of the Anglo–Saxons.
• After a brief account of the tribes living in
England, it details the history of the British
Isles from the time of Julius Caesar onwards.

year-by-year account of English history.
• It was maintained & added to by
generations of scribes until the mid 1100s.
