Asser’s Biography

• Asser’s biography is not entirely impartial. He was under

Alfred’s patronage; he was given the Bishopric of Sherborne by

him.

• He admired Alfred & could even be called his friend.

• The biography omits any mention of internal strife or conflict.

• Although undoubtedly one-sided, it was completed whilst

Alfred was still alive so is unlikely to contain gross errors of fact.
