Building Burhs And Other Infrastructure.
• Where Alfred is exceptional is that he had an understanding of
what it takes to repair a badly maimed & bleeding kingdom. But
he is also is a hard ruler & pushes his subjects to put their
shoulder to the wheel, as he himself does.
• He recognizes that he cannot withstand the Vikings without
strongly fortified towns & fully operational markets to generate
money. Gold is the sinew of war.
• So, he sets out to restore & fortify old Roman towns, of which
the most famous is London.
