• Alfred built a small fleet of warships to
guard the coast.
• He also introduced a set of written laws
& taxation to make the kingdom more
stable & fairer.
• As the economy grew, he had coins
minted.
• He formed the Witan, a council of church
leaders & nobles, to advise him.
