Verwood U3A Country Dance Group
The Country dance group meets in the Methodist Church
Hall
weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 3.30pm. The group has been
running
for several years, initially under the umbrella of Ferndown U3A. We cover English
country dancing from the 17th Century to the present day. We also cover American
contra and square dancing which originated from the early English and Scottish dances.
Instruction is always given and all dances are walked through.
The intention is to
provide friendly, enjoyable and fun exercise for
the body and mind. There is nothing
too energetic or difficult and
everybody helps everyone else to master the dances.
We do dances which resemble Ceilidh or Barn Dances but which are not as raucous or
energetic. We welcome all comers whether you have any experience or not. You are
welcome to come along to see what we do and join in for one meeting even if you are
not a member of U3A.
Family History Group
The group will meet fortnightly on Wednesday morning 10 to 11.30am
in
the Methodist Church, door at the rear, beginning on the 15th September.
We will
discuss problems encountered in tracing your family history and it
is intended that
possible solutions will be offered. The possession of a
computer will be an advantage
and advice will be given. I have asked Bill
Bowden to support me and he has much
more experience than me. If you
are not a possessor of a laptop or PC there may be
a friend in the group
who can help you outside the meeting. Remember that the U3A
is meant to be a self help organisation, so do not be put off.
There will not be a
set curriculum so if you miss a session there is likely
to be a chance to catch on
anything you may have missed.
Look forward to seeing you, Brian and Bill.
